I have learned a lot from this class and my photography has improved to say the very least. Not just photos but also using photoshop because in the beginning I knew absolutley nothing about photoshop. I had no idea that you could edit and touch up photos to get rid of the flaws or how you could take pictures from the internet and insert them into another. When I first opened photoshop I only knew the crop tool but all of the symbols were foreign to me. Now I know how to enhance the photos and draw the eye in all the right places Above are my best (on top) and worst (bottom) photo. The second photo was taken towards the beginning of the class. Before I would just think that you can see what the object is so it is good. Now I look at that photo and think I needed to use a higher shutter speed to freeze the motion and that I needed to make the aperture bigger to let more light in.
The class has improved my photo taking skills immensely to say the least. From learning the basics to editing in Photoshop. Below are a few of my other favorites and I hope you can see that I learned something.

For this assignment we were told to take two words and create a visual representation of that word with the definition as well. From there we were told to show off our photoshop skills and make the image draw the eye. We then had to put the two images into one. What I learned
From this assignment I learned most about using the brush tool to reveal and conceal. Depending on where I was editing the image I had to keep changing the opacity to create the blended affect that I wanted. I think that overall the images turned out well if I had to change something maybe I would've add some more images. For this assignment we were told to create three puns/play on words using only pictures and photoshop. We then had to put all of the puns together in one photo. I chose to do tiger lily, earworm, and unicorn. What I learned
I learned about changing the backgrounds in photoshop to make the image as a whole pop. I think the only thing I would change about this is my second pun because I wish it was a little more clever like the unicorn and tiger lily. No editing (Best Photo) F/4.5 Shutter Speed: 1/25 ISO 3200 What I learned
I learned about the the correct proportions when taking pictures in the dark. For the best results you need to open up the aperture and slow down the shutter speed so that there is enough light coming into the camera. I also learned about using light to add character to the photos. This week we had the multiple me assignment. We took a picture of the background first and then took individual shoots of the same background but with our model in the same place. We then used Photoshop to put all of the pictures. What I Learned I learned the most about photoshop from this assignment. I learned about layer masks and how you can adjust them if you have one layer that goes on top of the other. I also learned about "white reveals and black conceals" where you can shave off or add to the layer mask as well.
This week I choose black and white as my subject. I found some photos I had already taken and edited them using photoshop. I really tried to play with contrast to bring out light and detailing in the photo. Edited F/5.6 1/320 ISO 100 Uneditied What I learned
This week I think I learned the most about contrast. I played with the contrast in Photoshop to deepen the background in order to draw attention to the lighter parts. I think in the end they turned out nicely. This week we were given a portrait assignment. In this assignment we had to take two different photos. The first photo was taken in a "studio" with a white screen and lights. For second photo you had to use natural light to bring equal light to the subject. We did this by using a white piece of cardstock to reflect the light equally on the subject's face. Natural Lighting Studio What I learned
I learned a lot during this assignment especially about lighting. I have seen photographers use the reflection sheets but I didn't know why until we did this project. I also learned that you probably want your model to be in the center of the frame for portraits especially. I think the most important thing I learned is that when taking portraits it is important to capture the model's personality. For this assignment we were given the choice to do whatever tutorial we wanted on Photoshop. For my first tutorial I choose one of the photos I took of my sister and turned it into a vintage style photo. For my second tutorial I turned one of my macro photos into a collage of polaroids. Original Edited Original Edited What I learned
I learned about a bunch of new tools in Photoshop from both of these assignments From the first assignment I learned about how to change the colorization and how to add a gradient effect to the photo. From the second assignment I learned about using different layers to do different things to the same photo and how to use group layers. This week I choose light painting for my subject. I met up with some other friends taking the same class and we tried to do some light painting. I tried to use the light to play with coloration and bring focus to and around the subject. (Best photo) Shutter Speed: 15 seconds Aperture: f/5.0 ISO: 400 What I learned
This week I think I learned the most about light exposure from doing the light painting. I learned about using the correct ratio of ISO and aperture when in the dark and when you have a shutter speed of 15 seconds. I think if anything I could use more on the clarity of the pictures but other wise I think they turned out nicely. This week I chose nature as my subject to take pictures of. I thought that while the leaves and plants still have color, since it is fall, that I would take pictures of them. I really tried to bring out details and vibrancy of subjects. best photo ISO 1600 F/4.5 1/1000 What I learned
I learned how to properly adjust ISO and get that right ratio when taking pictures. I also learned how to add more interest in a photo by using the aperture to really capture the subject. I would say that I still have room for improvement still with getting that right ratio. |
